PELITA BRUNEI | PROTECT YOUR CARD INFO

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Saturday, 1 Ogos. - Smart wallets (smart wallets) first appeared a few years ago, serving to provide security to your banking card by bypassing unwanted Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) payments.

Co-Founder of Ultimate Wallet (UW), Abdul Ghani bin Haji Muhd. Saidi during an interview with Pelita Brunei explained that he has a hobby of keeping a collection of wallets and was one of the early users of smart wallets after buying online in 2017.

At the end of 2018, he intends to make a local brand smart wallet and started setting up UW with a friend, then started selling the smart wallet in early 2019.

The UW smart wallet, he explained, is something new, in 2019, in Brunei Darussalam and the response at that time was not very encouraging because not many residents of Brunei Darussalam know about the importance of smart wallets.

"After that, we started marketing on social media (Instagram and Facebook) by starting to provide knowledge to the public through our social media platform. Alhamdulillah, little by little, more and more people are interested in 'smart wallet'.

It is true that abroad has many branded wallets, but most wallets from abroad are not very practical for use in Brunei Darussalam, such as a place to store coins.

"Overseas wallets now highlight the use of cards and e-wallets, where they no longer use cash and coins, in Brunei, the scenario is different because they still use cash and coins," he said.

RFID is one of the frequencies in bank cards, such as BIBD Pay Wave, the bank cards, he explained, will be scanned by RFID 'device' (RFID device) to transfer money in the bank the bank card holder for online sales transactions.

"The danger is that when people with RFID type bank cards do not use wallets that have RFID 'protection' (RFID protection), then they will be exposed to danger, such as their money being stolen, without being known to use RFID devices.

"Their information, such as name, home address and identity card contained in the card is also vulnerable to danger. This has already happened abroad, such as Malaysia and China," he explained.

He further explained that the UW wallet is the earliest care as a precautionary measure so that people who want to leave the country can feel safe with the use of their wallets.

According to him, UW also sells GPS 'tracking card' (GPS tracking card) using Bluetooth, has a distance of five to 10 meters, it can be connected (connect) to a smartphone to find out the location of the wallet if lost.

"In the future, we intend to open a shop that sells branded wallets, namely UW's own products and wallets from abroad.

"Now we are still trying to market our products in Brunei Darussalam only and intend to start marketing in neighboring countries, such as Malaysia and Indonesia in the future, God willing," he added.
